Custom Thumb Prosthesis

Thumb Prostheses are custom made to each individual. This strict customization is necessary to ensure proper engineering and accuracy.  This is a very active part of the hand and its range of motion, such as circumduction, is greater.  Due to this expanded range of motion, we are sometimes limited in the efficacy of the suspension and transition.

The prosthesis can be created for any level of amputation. For individuals with no thumb remaining, a partial hand prosthesis can be created which will allow the active fingers to come through the prosthesis – thus allowing for opposition.

Our prostheses can even be created for thumbs which have very short levels of amputation, such as nail loss. In these cases the edge of the prosthesis is made less than a millimeter in thickness and has a transparent edge. This “invisible” edge eliminates a harsh visual transition.
